Jieun Kim received her PhD in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on government accountability, transparency, and the rule of law in China. Her first book project, Ruling the Local Leviathan: China’s Administrative Litigation Reform in the Xi Jinping Era, examines when and how authoritarian rule of law can (or cannot) hold local governments accountable, focusing on the incentives of central and local leaders, judges, and citizens. At the CSCC, she will work on her book and develop new projects on China's contentious politics and social control through law.
