Brian C. Chao is an assistant professor in the Naval War College's National Security Affairs Department. He studies cross-Taiwan Strait relations, naval power and geostrategy, and US Asia-Pacific defense and foreign policies. Brian's work appears in the British Journal of Politics and International Relations, International Relations of the Asia-Pacific, and Territory, Politics, Governance, as well as edited volumes on navies in multipolar worlds (Routledge, 2021) and 21st-century Asia security issues (World Scientific, 2023). He has provided commentary for the China Brief, The Diplomat, the East Asia Forum, The National Interest, the US Naval Institute, and Voice of America Chinese, and he has testified on Taiwan issues before the Court of the Citizens of the World. Brian holds an AM and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania, and an AB in Government from Dartmouth College.
