Ethnic Bias in Criminal Sentencing in China
Yue Hou, Assistant Professor of Political Science, University of Pennsylvania
Are ethnic minorities treated differently by the Chinese legal system? Using newly and publicly available data on more than 120,000 drug offense cases in four ethnically diverse provinces from 2010 to 2018, Yue Hou and Rory Truex collaboratively explore whether Chinese judges differ from each other in how they sentence ethnic minorities in local courts.
