JIe

In recent years, China has accused the U.S. of “hollowing out” its own one China policy, while the Biden administration has insisted that its one China policy has not changed. The talk establishes an analytical framework to assess the continuity and change of the U.S. policy, and then explores how different perceptions and interests are driving up the tensions over the Taiwan Strait.

Jie Dalei is a Senior Research Fellow of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies(IISS), Peking University(PKU), and an associate professor at the School of International Studies of Peking University in Beijing, China. His area of expertise is security studies in general and the China-U.S. relations and cross-Taiwan Strait relations in particular. He received his B.A. degree in Law and Economics and his M.A. degree in Law at Peking University. He got his Ph.D. degree in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania in 2012.
