(Cancelled) Globalization of China’s Social Media Apps: The Cases of WeChat and TikTok

The Chinese social media mobile apps WeChat and TikTok each have global subscriber numbers of one billion or more. However, the vast majority of WeChat users are based in China, while TikTok has become one of the few Chinese mobile apps to find international popularity. This talk explores the global strategies of the companies behind these apps, and considers the current course and future potential of the apps in overseas markets.
