Events

Dear Affiliates and Friends of CSCC:

Welcome back for the 2021-22 academic year.  We thank you again for your continued engagement and support during the difficulties caused by the pandemic. We hope that you all have been, and remain, safe and well.

We are hoping, and planning, to resume on-site events, so long as university and government pandemic restrictions permit.  We are excited and pleased to be able to gather again in person, albeit with restrictions, which include a mask requirement, limited abilities to provide food, and—most disappointingly—the need to close many of our on-site events to those who are not members of the Penn community.  We may also have to require RSVPs in advance (to comply with university rules on contact tracing); if required, links for RSVPs will be provided on our page for each event.

We will continue to conduct some of our programming in online or hybrid form.  Please see individual event notices for details.

We will continue many of the activities--the Penn Project on the Future of U.S.-China Relations, policy roundtables, and thematic conferences on important topics in the study of contemporary China—from last year.  We will also return to a much more robust schedule of papers presented by leading established and rising scholars in the field.

If you are interested in joining us for on-site or online events, and do not receive our notices, please email [cscc-contact@sas.upenn.edu] to get on our email list or to inquire about specific events. We hope you will join us.

Best regards,

Jacques deLisle, Director

Guobin Yang, Deputy Director

Yuanyuan Zeng, Associate Director

In addition to the events and programs it hosts, the Center for the Study of Contemporary China provides support for activities sponsored by others at Penn when their activities are directly relevant to the CSCC’s mission to advance our understanding of the political, legal, economic, and social factors shaping China and its role in the world today. In the list of upcoming events, the appearance of CSCC logo indicates CSCC-sponsored events.

Requests for co-sponsorship or other types of support should be sent to cscc-contact@sas.upenn.edu and include a clear statement of the activity for which support is sought, its relevance to the CSCC’s mission, and the specific type of support requested.  As an academic research unit, the CSCC does not provide support for programs whose purpose is to advance a particular political agenda.
