Siman Zhao is a Ph. D student in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research mainly focuses on Chinese children’s adaptation to the fast changing society. In her master thesis, she explores the process by which parenting factors interact with children’s behavioral characteristics to shape migrant children’s adaptation or maladapation in Beijing. Her current project is the development of autonomy-connectedness behaviors in Chinese children. Do Chinese parents value more on autonomy nowadays due to the westernization in China? How do autonomy and connectedness contribute to the development in other domains such as peer relations and school adjustment?
